"How to talk about gaps in your resume"

Discussion on May 20: approaching resumes and interviews without compromising your values (Note: this has been rescheduled to Tuesday, June 17)

May 12, 2025

I could not be more excited to announce that I’m part of a new collective called the “Liberatory Livelihood Association” (here). More details on this to come in the near future!

For now, our first offering will be a discussion called, “How to talk about gaps in your resume: Approaching resumes and interviews without compromising your values.”

We are going to talk about this elephant in the room! The program will be online next Tuesday, May 20 June 17, 3 pm USA eastern/New York time (click the first link here for more details).

(Note this event has been rescheduled from an earlier date, still reflected in the graphic below. All other details, including the links and time, remain the same.)

Join me and my incredible colleagues Dr. Kimberly Terry, EdD, Heather Luna and Chris Musei-Sequeira, PMP for this discussion. We will be talking about the specific questions you've been asking us. And when you register, you can tell us YOUR exact question or scenario you'd like help with.

Our equity pricing model is designed to support folks no matter what resources you have available right now.

If you can't join us, please share this with some colleagues who need to be in on this discussion.

Also: My Big Read on eugenics and AI

I invite you to join me in reading the paper “The TESCREAL bundle: Eugenics and the promise of utopia through artificial general intelligence,” by Timnit Gebru and Émile P. Torres (it’s free, here).

The topic is how tightly intertwined eugenics and AI really are. It’s a missing piece in our shared understanding of how to dismantle the systems of racism and white male dominance in the U.S.

In fact, it’s so important that at some point in the very near future, I’m going to feature this paper for the next “Big Read” project that I run over in my Patreon (here). I’d like to invite you to read the paper now, share it with your friends too, and then join in the Big Read conversation when I schedule it (most likely that will be in June).

I’m a layperson with no formal training in either the history of eugenics or artificial intelligence, so I am reading this paper from neither a technical nor academic perspective; I freely admit this material is a real challenge for me and that’s not going to stop me from learning about this critical topic that’s changing our daily lives whether we want it to be or not.

No matter your level of experience with this, let’s learn alongside one another. I’ll announce the details of the Big Read soon.

As always, please keep recommending me to friends and colleagues who might need a business coach. I have an equity pricing structure that means I can help most folks who need a business coach, and I have extensive experience, especially coaching leaders in social justice.

Have a meaningful day and let’s do this together,

Kay Coughlin, CEO and Business Coach, Facilitator on Fire
