Communicating better, social justice, and Juneteenth
Hello there!
First (and probably least important, but you know, housekeeping…), I have moved my newsletter to Beehiiv. So, things are going to look a little different around here. It’s not only easier to use, for both you and me, but Beehiiv is the closest thing I can find to a communications platform that supports the social justice and equity values I bring to my business coaching. More on that in the future!
Over the next couple of weeks, please expect to hear from me a few times. I’ve got a lot to update you on and I want to keep these emails as brief as possible. (“Brief” is not really my strong suit, but I’ll sure try…)
The most important thing I want to share with you today is a reminder to give a listen to my new podcast, “Unraveling -Isms,” which I co-host with my friend and brilliant anti-racism & inclusion coach, Amena Chaudhry of Zarafa Consulting.
Since tomorrow is Juneteenth, I think it’s especially relevant to share the first episode we did, called “The White Moderate and Racism.”
To be clear, I’m not saying you should listen to the episode on Juneteenth. Nope! Listening to me, a white woman, is NOT the best way to honor Black people in the U.S. on this important day. Instead, I highly recommend spending some time on Marie Beecham’s website and check out Kina Reed (aka “Divesting from Whiteness) on IG (trust me, you’ll be so glad you found your way to both of these amazing Black women).
And last for today, but certainly not least, please register for this guided study of the book Hospicing Modernity, led by Dr. Ahmed Afzaal. This is really important work! I’ve already registered and I hope you’ll join me so we can work through the book together.
Until next time,
Kay Coughlin, business and leadership coach for non-profits and social justice organizations
